Project Status (as of 6/15/08)

The cylinder block castings proved to pose a little more difficulty than expected, but they are progressing well.  Every one had metal in places where it shouldn't be, in coolant spaces.   After trying various methods to correct this, finally an 'offset drill' was designed and built.  It clamps to the milling machine quill, and has a short 3/16" drill driven by a small chain from a sprocket mounted in the spindle.  It just fits into the cylinder hole, and by careful set-up, it is possible to drill out the offending metal in such a way that it's not very obvious that the drilled coolant hole is any different from the others.  This was a satisfying achievement.  Since at present there is no guarantee that getting more blocks cast would result in anything better, this process seems necessary.

The supply of some castings is getting very low.  At this time, only two more (almost) complete sets are available.  The supply of coolant pipes and coolant pump impellers has run out, so those will have to be back-ordered.

Orders will now be accepted for complete casting sets.  If you're interested, please contact
